Summer of Sonic 09 this Saturday

We will be bringing you loads of photos, info, maybe even some video clips of this Saturdays' Summer of Sonic event taking place in London. I'm personally looking most forward to meeting Sonic the Comic writer Nigel Kitching, a guy who's Decap Attack artwork was a big inspiration to me throughout my childhood. Another STC artist, Nigel Dobbyn, will also be there as well as two guys from Sumo Digital currently making that Sega All-Star Racing game. The SOS website has also revealed that a rather fancy art book will be given away, in their words 'designed in the style of a classic Mega Drive manual'.

If you're attending, you might just bump into me there wearing a "HELLO. I AM THE GAGAMAN." badge.

Well, that's a new event to put on my "The second I hit eighteen I'm going to" List. I didn't even know that there was a Sonic Summer thing going on, probably cause I'm a ruddy American. Well, I hope you have fun at it, and who knows, maybe I'll see you there after Comicon, or wherever I just finished going to.

Summer of Sonic sounds like a lot of fun, I'd love to go... too bad there isn't a similar event held here in the US, but what can you do? I saw an image of the SOS prize table on the Sonic City blog and they're giving away a lot of cool stuff including soundtracks and comics; man, I wish I could attend! Ah well, I'll just have to look forward to the coverage I guess.

Actually, given that Capcom's "Udon" imprint prints artbooks for Streetfighter, Mega Man, Okami and others, I wish SEGA would consider publishing some art books of their various series, especially books for the Sonic series. I don't know how well art books like that would sell, but Capcom must be seeing SOME success in that venture to continue publishing them (same with VIZ's art books for their manga), right?

Apparently plans for an American equivalent to us are in the works (judging by the comments on Sonic Blognik). That'd be ace if you got a similar event there. Mind you, the UK is Sonic country. :)

I'd love to see a New York Summer of Sonic (although California seems more likely), but the East Coast deserves some Sonic love. :)

I propose Jaleel White as Grand Marshall.

The UK is Sonic country, eh? I kinda figured Sonic was equally popular in both the US and the UK but given SOS is hosted in the UK... darn it, maybe I should move. It sucks that neither country gets localized versions of the game soundtracks (and I don't mean the watered down, single-disc Tokyopop versions from several years back. I mean the COMPLETE soundtrack) or any other cool merchandise like that, but I guess soundtracks and the like just don't sell that well in these territories... Oh well, at least I can import if nothing else...

One thing I noticed, at least with these two pages of the artbook, some of the illustrations overlap each other. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if the illustrations were organized a little better (like, two images per page, maybe give the year and what game, no matter how obvious it may be, it goes with and other little details like that). I doubt they can get commentary from the original artists, but that'd be great if something like that was included as well.

Arun, UK is by far a more 'Sonic' country than the USA. The SNES outsold the Megadrive/Genesis everywhere in the world apart from Europe, especially England! (Which also explains why Nintendo hates Europe). Sonic and SEGA has always been loved here by everyone whilst Americans are more drawn towards Nintendo or the latest FPS just about to hit the shelves! Sonic loves UK and UK loves Sonic!! RULE BRITANNIA!!

Hahaha, I don't want to start the flame fight, but let me point out that those rebel yanks did beat the crap out of you about oh say 300 years ago. xD Alright alright calm down kids, I don't really care what country is more of a Sonic fan, I just want some of the events spread equally around, not just one place.
