Tiger's R-Zone, and the terrible Sega ports it brought.

Now we all remember how bad the Virtual Boy by Nintendo was right? It couldn't really be played in any practical manner, didn't have a lot of games and worse of all: made your eyes bleed after a couple minutes due to the horrific bright red on black graphics. Tiger Electronics, well known for their dodgy LCD handheld games (many of which were based on Sega games) during the same year of 1995 also had a crack at making horrid bright red games for a system they christened the R-Zone (and the later model the XPG). Introducing Kevin Kerinert: the most SEGA dad ever?

So how Sega is your father? Mine used to play a lot of Sega Worldwide Soccer 98 on the Saturn and Virtua Striker on the Dreamcast and is also quite the fan of the House of the Dead games. So what if I was to tell you about Kevin Kerinert, a 49 year old Californian who buys Sega R-360's and restores them as a hobby, and also has his kids try out his modified 2 player set up? Sonic and the most uncomfortable bike ever (and other hot wheels toys)

Title almost sounds like the next Wii exclusive Sonic game.

Man, I have truck loads of sonic junk that is stored in the loft that I have never got around to posting about, best at least have a go at showing some of it.

So let's start off with this one off oddity of a toy. Hot Wheels did this set of 'Crash & Smash' toys and amongst the Sewer Sharks and whatever other franchises represented was this Sonic figure on a motorbike. More after the jump..

Forklift Number 5 of 1000

It's here! The major award has arrived: the 'Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing' Ryo Hazuki forklift statue. The short version of how I came about the figure: I entered a Sega contest a few months back and last week I won the figure. The figure was limited run of 1,000 was was only available via the online contest with a handful making it over to Europe and distributed via Sega Europe's Free Stuff Friday giveaway. Now enough chatter, let's take a look at the figure!

A Mystery Package From SEGA Arrives!

After having won a spontaneous contest involving speed drawing the complete cast of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, a month passed and my prizes have arrived! Sent from ArchangelUK of Sega Europe's Sonic blog, the package contained a number of items that I never thought I would own.

Any package with the Sega logo is a good package.

Carefully opening the bag (you always save a bag from Sega) I found a bright orange shirt wrapped around a number of tiny trinkets. Having read the spoilers on the front of the bag (aka the package contents for international customs purposes) I also knew that a game was inside. So what was inside?

Promo items I would usually have to take a flight to California or England for! Games represented were Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll, Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games and Sonic Classic Collection. Let's have a closer look at that odd shirt.

Sonic Classic Collection SE Aussie/Spain Unboxing

The emulation may not be up to par for the recent re-re-re-release of Sonic's classic Mega Drive games, but the special edition treatment is impressive! A photo gallery, courtesy of Sega Europe, shows off the collectors box exclusive to Australia and Spain.

The set features the game, a collection of art cards and a mini Sonic figurine all housed in a tin box.

It's those smaller figures by First4Figures! They are rather awesome (though the Tails one has a hard time standing up). They are also taller than most of the other miniature Sonic figures and don't suffer from any dodgy paint work or wonky eyes like the old Sonic & Knuckles set. maybe I'll post some more photos another time.

AoStH 3 - Cover Art and Release Date!

Exciting news for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog fans in the United States, the Volume 3 DVD has been given a release date as well as cover art. TVshowsonDVD.com broke the details:

This past December we broke the news that Shout! Factory's new "direct to consumer" online sales program would exclusively be offering The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog - Volume 3 on DVD. This 4-disc set finishes off the run of the popular animated series, which was spun off from Sega's classic videogame character.
